Why people make wrong decisions year after year

In 2024, 4.4 million new life, pension, and supposedly capital-forming insurance policies were taken out in Germany. Follow me for a moment in a thought experiment:

Anyone who pays 100 euros a month into such products for 30 years loses around seven years of their life due to lost earnings, because the money is not working for them, but for others.

Applied to all new policies taken out in 2024, this results in:

4.4 million contracts × 7 years = 30.8 million years.

What does this mean for people?

With a population of 84 million, that averages out to three months of life per person. Or to put it another way: every 7.7th person you meet in Germany signed such a contract last year and thus lost a piece of their life.

And now the crucial question: how does that feel?

Suddenly it's personal!

Imagine asking someone:

“What would you do with exactly 2.7 months of life if you knew it would be your last?”

Suddenly, it's no longer just about money, returns, or contracts. Suddenly, it's about dreams, desires, encounters with people, perhaps a trip, or one last big project close to your heart. It's about what really matters in life: time and how to fill it with real life.

The dramatic thing is that these millions of years of life are not lost through strokes of fate or natural disasters. They disappear quietly and silently through wrong financial decisions that could have been avoided.

The crucial question

How relevant is what I am doing right now, and how much impact do I really have on other people's lives?

Also explicitly to all advisors:

How does it feel that you did not approach these people to prevent something worse from happening?

or

How do you feel about recklessly wasting their lifetime for years for meager commissions?

Because when we talk about money, we are really always talking about lifetime. And anyone who offers smart solutions not only provides financial stability, but something much more valuable: a life truly lived.
